Favorite Cayman Island Activity!
You must know that when visiting the Cayman Islands, the main point of interest is
going to be the crystal clear, warm Caribbean Sea. It is something you must see to believe!
As a certified diver, I have to say, I have seen some pretty amazing sights 100 ft below the water’s surface – but – at those depths, the viewing time is limited. (more on the fabulous diving later)
But Snorkeling…. You can see just as amazing sights at just 6 – 10 ft below the surface.
And the best part - it’s Free! All you need is a mask, fins, snorkel and there is no limit to the time spent floating quietly across the calm surface. You will never get bored being part of a living aquarium!
Lucky for Beachcomber guests, some of the best snorkeling can be found right off Beachcomber beach! With the sandy bottom and gently sloping (no rocks /broken coral) entry into the sea, it is a snap to just don your gear and glide off into the warm water.
You won’t find much of a ‘coral reef’ off Beachcomber beach, what you will find are occasional large coral heads or large rock formations that are home to lobster, spotted eels, grouper, schools of yellowtail snapper, puffer fish and many other assorted tropical fish. These areas provide protection to these sea creatures, so take your time and look in all the little nooks and crannies.
What you will see in the open sand areas are sea turtles, stingrays, schools of squid, an occasional conch and my favorite ‘funny looking’ fish, the Flounder! Don’t be in a hurry, as you might miss some interesting creature that blends in perfectly with the surrounding sea bottom!
Just a reminder – The area around Beachcomber / 7 Mile Beach, is a protected Marine preserve, so, no fishing/ lobstering in this area. Also there are boat / jet ski restrictions so that the area is safe for swimmers and snorkelers!
I would love to hear from any Beachcomber guests – what/where are some of the creatures you have seen snorkeling off Beachcomber beach? Let us know.

See you on the Beach!
